2023 Tax Brackets
For tax year 2023, the top tax rate is 37 percent for single taxpayers with incomes greater than $578,125 ($578,100 for heads of households, $693,750 for married couples filing jointly). The tax rates for income levels less than those are:
(1) 35 percent for incomes over $231,250 (single, head of household, and married filing separately), and $462,500 (married couples filing jointly);
(2) 32 percent for incomes over $182,100 (single, head of household, and married filing separately) and $364,200 (married couples filing jointly);
(3) 24 percent for incomes over $95,375 (single and married filing separately), $95,350 (head of household) and $190,750 (married couples filing jointly);
(4) 22 percent for incomes over $44,725 (single and married filing separately), $59,850 (head of household), and $89,450 (married couples filing jointly);
(5) 12 percent for incomes over $11,000 (single and married filing separately), $15,700 (head of household), and $22,000 (married couples filing jointly);
(6) the lowest rate is 10 percent for incomes of $11,000 or less (single and married filing separately), $15,700 or less (head of household), and $22,000 or less (married couples filing jointly). The maximum estate and trust tax rate is 37 percent on income over $14,450.
